Nico Feld
I am currently a PhD Student in the HCI group at the Trier University, Germany. As part of my PhD thesis, I am interested in seamlessly integrating immersive technologies, like Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, in existing workflows. As part of the ARISE Project, I am currently evaluating the potential of Augmented Reality for traditional code debugging of digital twins.
My work over the past years has focused on advancing immersive technologies like virtual and augmented reality, with a strong emphasis on integrating both virtual and physical environments rather than moving existing workflows into virtual reality. I believe that while virtual reality creates new possibilities, it may not be beneficial to entirely move existing real-world processes into VR; instead, integrating both realities through cross-reality offers a more balanced and effective approach. This perspective has guided my dissertation and related projects, where I have explored virtual city tours in cross-reality, seamless transitions between multiple realities, and the resolution of complex challenges like occlusion in augmented virtuality.
Throughout these projects, I have developed a deep understanding of cross-reality interactions, enhancing collaborative and immersive experiences through innovative design and technical solutions. My extensive experience includes using tools like Unity and C#, as well as working with cutting-edge technologies such as Varjo XR headsets, HoloLens 2, and Quest devices. I have also specialized in image and object tracking through Vuforia and body tracking using Azure Kinect, enabling precise, responsive, and intuitive interactions. Across all my work, my focus remains on creating seamless, user-centered immersive experiences that elevate productivity, engagement, and cross-reality integration.
