Impact of AR Media Richness on Collaboration
Assisted Project
This project explores how augmented reality (AR) media richness impacts collaboration in dispersed teams, using cues like progress indicators and interactive avatars. I supervised the development of the study software, integrating body tracking with Microsoft Kinect and synchronizing data to a HoloLens for real-time avatar display and interaction.
Summary
This project examines the impact of media richness in augmented reality systems on collaboration among spatially dispersed teams. Two studies were conducted to explore how adding minimalistic but task-relevant and social cues—such as progress indicators and interactive avatars—affects team experience, cohesion, and performance. By enhancing AR interfaces to provide more engaging and contextually rich interactions, the research aims to strengthen social presence and task awareness without compromising performance. My contribution involved supervising the development of the study software, including the integration of body tracking using Microsoft Kinect and the synchronization of tracking data to a HoloLens, enabling real-time avatar display and interaction within the AR environment.
